this is how it works
you're young until you're not
you love until you don't
you try until you can't
you laugh until you cry
you cry until you laugh
and everyone must breathe until their dying breath
this is how it works
you peer inside yourself
you take the things you like
then try to love the things you took
and then you take that love you made
and stick it into someone else's heart
pumping someone else's blood
walking arm in arm
you hope it don't get harmed
but even if it does you just do it all again

My Utmost for His Highest
Jul. 18th, 2009 | 09:21 am
By the miracle of Redemption Saul of Tarsus was turned in one second from a strong-willed, intense Pharisee into a humble, devoted slave of the Lord Jesus.
There is nothing miraculous about the things we can explain. We command what we are able to explain, consequently it is natural to seek to explain. It is not natural to obey; nor is it necessarily sinful to disobey. There is no moral virtue in obedience unless there is a recognition of a higher authority in the one who dictates. It is possibly an emancipation to the other person if he does not obey. If one man says to another - 'You must,' and - 'You shall,' he breaks the human spirit and unfits it for God. A man is a slave for obeying unless behind his obedience there is a recognition of a holy God. Many a soul begins to come to God when he flings off being religious, because there is only one Master of the human heart, and that is not religion but Jesus Christ. But woe be to me if when I see Him I say - I will not. He will never insist that I do, but I have begun to sign the death warrant of the Son of God in my soul. When I stand face to face with Jesus Christ and say - I will not, He will never insist; but I am backing away from the recreating power of His Redemption. It is a matter of indifference to God's grace how abominable I am if I come to the light; but woe be to me if I refuse the light.

"Welcome, Prince," said Aslan. "Do you feel yourself sufficient to take up the Kingship of Narnia?"
"I — I don't think I do, Sir," said Caspian. "I'm only a kid."
"Good," said Aslan. "If you had felt yourself sufficient, it would have been a proof that you were not."

At the Home of Mary and Martha
Apr. 28th, 2009 | 08:25 am
I spoke about this a little on Sunday morning. It's something that has really stuck with me since I read it last week.
"As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10: 38-42
First, I love how this is one of the only times in the Bible that women were used, but it didn't matter what gender they were. It could have been men chopping wood instead of a woman cleaning the house, it wouldn't have made any difference. This to me is an indication of how important women were to Jesus and his disciples, and also how important women are to the church today. However, I think what hit me the most was what Martha was doing. She was not engaging in some overtly sinful behavior, she was simply cleaning the house. Now, when i first read this, I thought, "Martha how stupid can you be, the Lord of Lords is in your very home, speaking truth, and you are busying yourself with menial tasks!" Then I remembered, "Oh wait this is how I spend a good 90% of my life." Going about my day-to-day being careful to avoid sin, but not listening to to voice of the Lord, who is right there in front me, constantly speaking, in my own heart. Now I'm not saying that doing these everyday tasks is wrong, because I think great joy can be found in the little things in life. What I am saying is to walk with God every step of the way, and don't forget to sit quietly and listen to his voice. Proverbs:3 has some great things to say about this.
"My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father, the son he delights in.Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place;by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. Then when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.Have no fear of sudden disaster, or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared. Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act."
